Winter is the perfect time to add extra warmth and glamour to your home, whether it’s by picking up a few new
cushions in a luxurious velvet texture or rolling out a handwoven rug. Here are some of our favourite trends for the home this season.
Adding touches of gold, copper and silver to your home is a fabulous way to create interest and some shine to the space. It’s also surprisingly easy - simply start small. Maybe head to Pillow Talk or Freedom and pick up a copper soap dispenser for your bathroom, then gradually move onto larger pieces for your home.
Deep and moody colours
Dulux recently released its colour trends for 2016, which heavily featured deep, luxurious jewel tones like forest green, dark purple and passionate blues. They evoke a sense of glamour and decadence in the home and especially look best in rich textures like velvet and faux fur.
Cosy oversized knits are not only practical for the cooler months, but stylish and sophisticated, as they add an interesting texture to the home. We love the range of fabulous locally manufactured handwoven rugs at DecoRug and the lush knitted cushions and throws at Pillow Talk.
Of course, Australians have had a long love affair with well crafted timber furniture, but it’s now popping up in surprising places, like vases, bathroom accessories and the pendant timber lights at Andrews Light Up. With a slight nod to simple Scandinavian design, adding timber creates a warm, down-to-earth vibe to your home.
Mirror mirror on the wall, who’s the fairest of them all? Why opt for a plain rectangle when there’s such a wide range of mirrors available in all manner of shapes, styles and sizes? Head to Freedom, Rice Furniture or The Furniture Shack for some great ideas.
